Huia Necklace
"Huia e huia, tangata kotahi – Huia, your destiny is to bring everyone together." -Māori Proverb
Of all Tāne’s children, the huia was the most sacred to Māori. Its feathers were treasured, gifted as symbols of friendship and respect.
This necklace was inspired by the book Huia Come Home by J. Ruka, which opened my eyes to parts of our history I hadn’t been taught growing up. That experience stayed with me, and I wanted to honour it through my jewellery - my way of expressing what matters.
Handcrafted in solid .925 sterling silver, the feather has been polished in such a way that the upper surface reflects dark when it catches the light, while the tip is frosted to a soft white. No chemical treatment has been used – just skilled finishing.
